Submission Guidelines

General Guidelines

The JRC will consider all articles and book reviews which conform to these guidelines. The JRC also reserves the right to reject papers which do not conform to one or more of the points stated on this page.

  • Work submitted must be original, and unpublished elsewhere. If you have submitted your paper to other publications, do not send it to the JRC. The JRC does not accept simultaneous submissions for unpublished work either.
  • Papers are expected to demonstrate at least a graduate-level understanding of the material, contain insightful and original arguments and observations, and contain content suitable for an academic publication. Papers which are methodologically problematic, outdated, contain straw-man arguments, or overtly faith-based will not be accepted.
  • Papers must be written in either English or French. Papers that use excessive quotations from other languages (such as German, Hindi, Latin, etc.) are expected to include translations in the body of the text or footnotes.
  • Submissions should use gender-inclusive language, with the exception of direct quotations and translations of ancient texts, which should conform to the standards of the original language.
  • Submissions are welcome from any area or field wihtin the study of religion including (but not limited to): Comparative Religions; Theology; Philosophy of Religion; Theory and Method; Critical Race Theory; Critical Indigenous Theory; Religion and Literature; Religion and Art; Religion and Linguistics; Religion and Health; Anthropology of Religioin; Psychology of Religion; History of Religions
  • Papers must be in an OpenOffice or Microsoft Word document file format.
  • Where avaiable, URLs/DOIs for references have been provided.
  • The text of the paper must be double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; and employs italics, rather than underlines (except with URL addresses)
  • Papers must adhere to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlines in the JRC Style Guide
  • Authors should anonymize the body of their paper, removing references to themselves in the text as well as in the document metadata

How to Submit

If you are interested in submitting to this CFP, please visit www.jrc-concordia.ca/submit. Fill out the appropriate information and attach your paper to the message. Hit “Send” when you are ready to submit.

If you are having trouble with the submission form, you can send your paper in an email attachment to jrc.concordia@gmail.com. Should you choose to do so, you must include your name and contact information in the body of the email.

File Types and Name

All submissions must be in .doc, .docx or .odt. All other file types will be rejected and not be reviewed.

Please name your submission file so that it includes your last name and title of the paper (or short title) or the title book you are reviewing.

For example:

“Smith – The name of this paper”

Article Guidelines

Articles should be 10-25 pages in length, double-spaced with standardized margins and font size and type (Arial, Calibri, Times New Roman, Courier, etc.). This includes footnotes and bibliography.

Include your abstract (150-300 words) and 3-5 keywords on the first page of the document.

Do not include a title page. Simply include the title of your paper and your name on the first two lines of the first page (this is purely for our records as these will be removed during the blind review process).

Please remove any additional information from footers and headers such as your author name or the title of the paper.

Be sure to number your pages.

Please ensure that your paper has been read and reviewed for basic grammar and spelling before submitting it.

Book Review Guidelines

Book reviews should be 750-1000 words in length.
The JRC Book Review is not interested in summaries of texts, or slight glosses of what is already written. We are interested in difficult wrestling, innovative readings, and solid investigations into both the book and the social context that surrounds the book.

If you would like to review a book, we would be happy to hear from you. Please send a brief bio, the title of the book, and the publisher and we will endeavour to find a review copy for you if you do not already have access to a copy.

Formatting Guidelines

The JRC follows the Chicago Manual of Style. Please review the JRC Style Guide prior to submitting your work. Well-formatted work is reviewed more favourably by the editorial staff than work which shows a poor attention to detail.
